Water. It is a vital component for healthy living. Human body is almost 50-75 % of water. It is necessary for almost all the cellular functions. It helps the body digest the food we eat, carry oxygen to the cells, help maintain the brain functions at optimum. It is a known fact that humans can survive weeks without food but mere days without water. An adult needs about 2.5 liters of water everyday.
Today, I present to you, three ways of making your water special. It gets boring sometimes, to drink “plain old” cold filtered water. We can add different things to water to infuse it with subtle taste and some good nutrients. It is not only pretty to look at but also very healthy.The recipes for these are extremely easy. Come on, go ahead and give it a try. I bet you will be addicted. 🙂
Recipe 1 : Citrus flavored water
Citrus fruits like orange, grapefruit and lemon rich in Vitamin C. It helps improve your skin and gives you a youthful glow. Cucumber has lots of water content and gives a refreshing coolness and flavor to the water. Mint gives a freshness and mint has an extra cooling effect on the body especially during the summers.
Soak very thinly slices of half a lemon , half a grapefruit , half an orange and half a cucumber in a 32 fl oz (1 liter ) jar of an infuser if you prefer it that way then add cold water and add 1-2 oz (50 gm) of mint leaves . Set it in the fridge overnight. Wake up to a fresh cold infused water ready and enjoy throughout the day.
Recipe 2 : Berry flavored water
Berries are nature’s antioxidant super capsules. They are rich in phytochemicals , that are naturally occurring nutrients that help protect cells from being damaged. Rosemary adds an herb flavor to the mix, while the citrus gives a refreshing flavor. Add thin slices of half a lemon, a fistful of blackberries and blueberries and about 2 oz (50 gm) of rosemary to a pitcher, fill it up with cold water and leave overnight in the refrigerator. Consume throughout the day and enjoy.
Recipe 3: Strawberry lemon flavored water
Strawberries and lemons have always been a classic combination in lemonades and now I bring this flavor to the water along with the mint freshness. Lemons are rich in Vitamin C which has a wide range of benefits. It is good for detox regimens.
For this version of the flavored water, add thin slices of half a lemon, about half a cup of sliced strawberries and 2 oz (50 gm) of fresh mint leaves. Leave it overnight in the refrigerator and wake up to a pitcher of fresh tasty flavored water.

Do not soak the fruits and herbs for flavoring for more than 24 hours. If you wish to have them every day, I would suggest to make it fresh and have it all through the day.
